FAIRFIELD — Fairfield City Schools has found new ways to interact with the public beyond its regular board meetings.

One of these is the District Updates, which will be held quarterly, with the first meeting scheduled at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Fairfield Child Development Center on 140 Donald Drive.

Superintendent Paul Otten, Treasurer Nancy Lane and other district leaders will talk about news, projects and other information and will take questions from the public.

These will be open-ended meetings, with no specific format, said Gina Gentry- Fletcher, the community relations director for the district.

“We may come in with maybe a bit of a presentation of any kind of announcement,” she said, but besides that, the meetings will be loosely formatted.

Another new type of meeting the district has created is the Community Coffee, the first of which was to be held Thursday evening.

In these meetings, district officials meet with local residents at their homes to discuss any issues the residents would like. These evening meetings are not public forums, but are open to whomever the requester of the meeting invites. Community Coffees will help parents and other residents deal with issues specific to their schools and their needs, Gentry-Fletcher said.

“People can ask us specific questions about a school, so we can give out information and gather information to be make better decisions,” Otten said.

Gentry-Fletcher added, “We wanted to communicate better with the community about things that will impact them.

Otten said community coffees have been scheduled through March. They can be scheduled by contacting Gentry-Fletcher at gentry-fletcher_g@fairfieldcityschools.com or (513) 858-7117.
