Records show sex offender school nurse worked at 2 area districts

A records search shows a former school nurse who tried to sexually entice a teenage boy with alcohol and marijuana, worked part-time for two area school systems and was a former hospital administrator in Middletown and Dayton.

According to documents obtained by the Journal-News, former school substitute nurse Delena Clever, 48, of Maineville had worked for three schools in the Little Miami Schools district in Warren County.

Clever worked at Harlan-Butlerville Primary School, Salem Township Elementary and Little Miami Junior High School for a total of 6.5 school days during the 2018-19 school year.

Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell released a statement earlier this week at the sentencing of the former school employee saying she had also “sent a text message to a male student informing him she was intoxicated and asked him to drive her around.”

In August 2018, “Clever directed the student to a hotel in Deerfield Township where she had rented a room. While there, Clever made several sexual advances towards the student and offered him alcohol and marijuana,” Fornshell said.

“The student refused and told Clever he wanted to go home. While driving back, Clever reached over and touched the student’s genitals over his clothing.”

Clever, who did not respond to messages seeking comment, also worked for a total of 6.5 school days in Warren County’s Kings Schools, according to her personnel file in that district.

Clever listed her previous employer as Atrium Medical Center, where she was employed as an “administrative officer” starting in 2016.

She also listed working at the former Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton from 2009 to 2016 in a position of the same title.

Neither Clever’s Little Miami Schools, nor her Kings Schools’ personnel file, contained any reports of inappropriate or criminal behavior with students or school staffers, nor any record of misbehavior.

Clever pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor of the first degree; and sexual imposition, a misdemeanor of the third degree, in Warren County Common Pleas Court.

Warren County Common Pleas Court Juvenile Division Judge Joseph W. Kirby this week sentenced Clever to 60 days in the Warren County Jail and registered her as a Tier I sex offender.

Fornshell said that “Clever is lucky that the underage student ultimately rebuffed her sexual advances, otherwise she would find herself in a prison cell instead of spending local time in the county jail.”
