A report of a possible burglary in progress at 1:35 a.m. on Aug. 31 led police to a highly intoxicated man who kicked in a front door, undressed and left a trail of clothing items from the porch to the living room, where he fell asleep and then had no recollection of any of it, according to a police report.

Police responded to the report and contacted the female resident in the 200 block of West Church Street, and she said she was awakened by the sound of someone kicking in the door.

She was not sure if anyone was still in the house and agreed to allow officers to check out the house.

That search located a man passed out on a large furry pillow on the floor in the living room stripped down to his red boxer shorts, the report said.

He was not known to anyone in the house, and while they were speaking to him, a male approached and told officers he had seen the suspects kick in the front door. He was taken to the police department for processing.

Fingerprints and DNA were taken and the man, 21, said he was a New Miami fireman and had no recollection of kicking in the door, although he said he did not doubt that he had done so. He reportedly said he had come here with friends for a night out and had consumed too much alcohol, including a “Trash Can” at Brick Street.

He said he did not remember kicking in the door or entering the house.

Kicking in the door resulted in significant damage to the frame and he was charged with criminal damaging, a misdemeanor, as well as a charge of burglary, a fourth-degree felony, and taken to the Butler County Jail.
