Police: Man arrested after vehicle strikes Hamilton officer, 2nd officer opens fire

A Hamilton man was arrested on Thursday after he struck an officer with his vehicle while fleeing and another officer fired shots in his direction, according to a police report.

Hamilton police tried to question Eric Wilson, 36, around 6:15 pm.“in regards to several recent criminal acts in which he was named as the suspect,” police said.

As Wilson attempted to flee in his vehicle in the 600 block of South Seventh Street, the vehicle struck officer Sean Figley. Another officer, Wyatt Arnold, opened fire and hit the vehicle, police said. Wilson was not injured by gunfire. The vehicle crashed, and police took Wilson into custody.

Wilson, who was treated for minor injuries suffered in the crash, told police he was “under the influence of cocaine, meth and marijuana,” according to a police report. He was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence and outstanding warrants.

Figley, 28, an officer since April 2015, was treated and released from a local hospital. Arnold, 31, an officer since January 2014, was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, which is standard procedure
