“Dozens of homes might have been impacted by this storm, so we are recommending that property owners consider applying for property tax relief,” said Butler County Auditor Roger Reynolds. “If a building’s value has been impacted in a negative way we want to be able to temporarily reduce that value.”

Owners should file an Application for Valuation Deduction for Destroyed or Damaged Property with the auditor’s office if damage is significant enough to affect the property’s value for the 2017 tax year. Those taxes will be due in 2018.

Personal property loss, such as furniture, appliances or vehicles, cannot be considered. The value deduction is based on the real-estate damage only.
