When auto sales are slow, then Marc Belden’s business grows.
The owner of The Detail Doctor moved the business he co-owns with his wife, Lisa, a few months ago from Symmes Twp. near the Kings Automall on Fields Ertel to the auto mile on Dixie Highway in Fairfield.
“We’re pretty much a one-stop shop,” Belden said.
Belden has been in the business for 16 years, starting in college.
“I started to get good at what I was doing, and the money kept me in the business,” he said.
When his wife got a new job at Procter & Gamble three years ago, she encouraged him to start his business.
Moving from Symmes Twp. to Fairfield, he was forced to downsize to get his location along the auto mile and next to Johnny’s Car Wash. He moved from a 4,000-square-foot facility to a converted former quick-change oil place. He went from a monthly average of 300 cars to 660 cars in September. He attributes that to the 50,000 cars that travel Ohio 4 daily.
“I wouldn’t have thought the size of this building would double my business,” said Belden, a Fairfield Twp. resident and Ross native. “Retail has picked up because of that ... there’s a lot of curiosity.”
Belden is the Ohio dealer for Strike Force automotive surface protective products. His products are sold at many of the area automotive dealers.
“If you buy Strike Force in the state of Ohio, it comes from Fairfield, Ohio,” he said.
Fairfield Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kert Radel said The Detail Doctor can be an asset to the community.
“I think it’s great that they are there, that they brought the business to Fairfield,” Radel said.
“Their clientele, their customer base, goes all the way into Northern Kentucky. They’re really a regional business, and bringing a regional business into Fairfield is a huge plus for the community.”
