OXORD — The Miami University Men’s Glee Club and the Collegiate Chorale will be performing sacred hymns and holiday favorites at this year’s annual concert.

Conducted by Jeremy Jones, these groups will perform at 7 and 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at Hall Auditorum.

For about an hour, the two choirs will take the audience around the world and through time with the songs in the line up. Jones said this concert should have a lot of variety. The songs will range from Baroque era to contemporary — including some tunes sung in German and Latin. There will also be a couple of African spiritual numbers.

“The chorale ends with a neat Cuban piece with a Caribbean style,” Jones said.

The performance will a mix of a capella numbers and pieces with instrumental accompaniment.

Because it’s the end of the semester, the student performers have been balancing studying for finals and preparing for the concert. The event will take place the weekend before exams.

“It’s always hard to get that focus, especially this time of year, but the students still really bring an energy to it,” Jones said.

“It also gives them a break from exam work, because a lot of them are in this because of their love of music,” said Jones, noting that only about a fifth of the members are music majors. For Jones, this creates a great group of students and very rewarding experiences.

“Both of these groups have a great amount of passion and energy,” he said.

The students will also be selling CDs of previous holiday concerts.
