Longtime Oxford philanthropists honored with a pair of heron sculptures

Two bronze heron sculptures have been installed at the Oxford Community Arts Center in honor of Jack and Sally Southard, longtime Oxford residents and philanthropists.

The Southards have resided in Oxford for more than 50 years. During this time, they have been active members and supporters of the Oxford Community Arts Center. They currently sponsor the musical performances at the monthly Second Friday exhibition openings. Sally was a longtime member of the Arts Center’s Development Committee and was instrumental in creating the yearly Arts Gala. Jack is a past president of the Arts Center’s board of directors and now serves on its finance committee.

In addition to their support of the Oxford Community Arts Center, the Southards have dedicated their time and resources to numerous other Oxford area organizations, including the Oxford Rotary Club, the Oxford Community Foundation, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, and Miami University.

The sculptures, designed and created by the Magaws of Boston, were commissioned by a group of local residents and installed in the Arts Center’s recently completed West Garden.

The Oxford Community Arts Center is located at 10 S. College Ave.
