Lakota East principal leaving to join West Clermont

Keith Kline will leave Lakota district after 15 years starting Aug. 1.

Lakota East High School’s principal has been named the new assistant superintendent of administration and human resources at West Clermont Local School District.

Keith Kline, who has served as principal of Lakota East for five years and been employed by the district for 15 years, will begin his new post on Aug. 1. He will be paid $123,746 annually, according to district officials.

Kline, 49, is replacing Al Delgado, longtime assistant superintendent of administration and personnel, who is retiring effective July 28. Delgado has been employed by the district since 1987.

In his new duties, Delgado said Kline will be responsible for overseeing and hiring all district staff, working with the technology department, cafeteria management and services.

Kline also will serve as the lead contact for contract negotiations with the teachers association and classified personnel and work closely with the superintendent on decisions related to staff, and in particular placement of staff members in the district, Delgado said.

He said it was a family decision for him to leave Lakota to embark on new challenges at West Clermont.

“I’ve spent 18 years as a building-level administrator, and I’m looking for some new challenges and new opportunities. I’ve always had an interest in central office when my own kids were going through high school and I thought it was important I was here with them,” Kline said.

His daughter, Ally, 22, graduated from Lakota East in 2008 followed by his son, Quinn, 20, in 2010, he said.

“I’ve always had an interest in the human resources side of things and I’ve had a lot of opportunities in Lakota to do different things around teacher evaluation and negotiations, and so this will be my opportunity to follow that path a little more.”

Kline, a native of Miamisburg, is planning to commute 30 minutes each way from his Liberty Twp. home to the suburban and rural West Clermont school district, which consists of 54 square miles and more than 9,000 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12. He’s leaving Lakota’s suburban district of 63 square miles and more than 17,000 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12.

- During Kline’s tenure at Lakota, he also has served as assistant principal at Lakota East for six years, principal at Freedom Elementary for three years and principal at the old Freshman Building for one year.

- He also served as a unit principal at Kettering Fairmont High School in Kettering City Schools for three years and as band director for two years.

- Kline is married to Gail Kist-Kline, superintendent of Mason City Schools.
