“Research shows that original art work in a health care setting enhances the environment and promotes healing,” said Bryan Hehemann, chief executive officer at McCullough-Hyde. “It also comforts and delights patients, visitors, and staff. In addition, research demonstrates that patients who view art recover more quickly.”
The submission deadline is March 10.
The show will be juried by Dennis and Muriel Foster of Landen, Ohio. Dennis Foster is a trained cinematographer and photographer, inspired by Cincinnati’s architecture and famous artists, according to the hospital. Muriel Foster taught photography at the University of Cincinnati for 13 years, and maintains a studio and gallery in Loveland where she teaches digital photography.
The Fosters will work with a committee of hospital staff and volunteers to select up to seven works from the exhibit for $5,000 in Purchase Awards. These pieces will be purchased by the hospital and other donors to become part of its permanent collection.
Local artists interested in submitting their work may contact Jean Vance at jeanvanceartist@msn.com or 513-284-9609. Those interested in sponsoring a Purchase Award for the hospital’s permanent collection should contact Julie Nickell at 513-664-3850 or jnickell@mhmh.org.
An opening reception for the Healing Art exhibit will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 2 to introduce the artists and their works to the public.
