Payne had last been seen Aug. 17 after an argument occurred between acquaintances after a sleepover in Hamilton, according to missing persons flyers posted on social media. She was last seen leaving with friends.
On Wednesday, Carlisle police received a tip from a family member of Payne that “her body was deposited on Park Street near the railroad tracks,” said Chief Michael Bruck. Police searched the area for about two hours and returned this morning, but did not find Payne.
“There was a tip from someone who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone else, who heard it from someone else,” Bruck said.
