Fort Hamilton Hospital begins fluid overload therapy

HAMILTON — Fort Hamilton Hospital is performing its first outpatient aquapheresis therapy today, making it only one of 12 hospitals nationwide performing the innovative therapy on an outpatient basis, according to a release issued by Kettering Health Network, the hosptial’s parent healthcare system.

Aquapheresis is a medical therapy designed to remove excess salt and water from the body safely, predictably and effectively from patients suffering from fluid overload. In today’s procedure, the therapy is being used to get rid of fluid from the blood of a patient with congestive heart failure, according to the release.
