While the weather was hot, the wide roads with grand trees provided a pleasant walk for the hundreds who attended the event which is held every two years.
Richard and Tina Brunner of Oxford restored a home in California and decided to take the Hamilton tour to get some ideas for future projects.
“I came here a few years ago for the ghost tour and I wanted to come back to see more of the houses,” Tina Brunner said.
While many Hamiltonians drive through the neighborhood daily, few ever have the chance to stop and admire the majestic homes.
John and Paula Campellone’s bright lavender home at 937 Dayton St. was part of the tour. The couple purchased the home, owned in the late 1890s by the Fitton family, four years ago and began a painstaking restoration project.
“It is still a work in progress,” Paula Campellone told visitors who marveled at the wood floors, high ceilings and bedroom fireplaces. “I love old homes.”
Tourees were also treated to performances by the Demetrius Klein Dance Company, a steam calliope and The Wheelman big wheel bicycle group.
There were also carriage rides with white mules Lucy and Ricky pulling a shady carriage.
According to event organizers, all proceeds from the event will benefit the Dayton Lane Historic Area.
