Middletown crash sends 2 to hospital with serious injuries

UPDATE @ 2:08 p.m.

Crews responded this morning to a two-vehicle accident that blocked part of Verity Parkway near 14th Avenue in Middletown.

The crash, which was dispatched a little after 11 a.m., blocked Verity Parkway in front of Woodside Cemetery.

The driver of the pickup truck apparently went left of center and crashed head-on into a car that was traveling north on Verity Parkway, said Sgt. Chris Crisafi from the State Highway Patrol.

He said it appears there were no signs of braking by either driver.

“It was that quick,” Crisafi said. The driver of the car “had no time to react,” he said.

David Whitaker, of Hamilton, was identified as the at-fault driver, and Courtney Howard, of Middletown, was the driver of the other vehicle, according to the highway patrol.

Whitaker was treated at Atrium Medical Center, then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, officials said. His condition wasn’t released.

No condition was listed for Howard at Atrium.

The investigation is ongoing, and Crisafi said he’s not sure if drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

Verity Parkway has reopened to traffic in both directions.
