HAMILTON — The city of Hamilton is getting a jump on next year’s spring cleaning.
The city is gearing up for its annual surplus property auction of items such as motorcycles, seized vehicles and computers.
“It’s typically equipment that’s no longer reliable and useful to the city,” said John Hoskinson, purchasing agent for the Finance Department.
Hoskinson said around $80,000 to $110,000 is garnered each year from the event. The money raised, he said goes back to the fund with which the items were purchased.
Hoskinson said worn out Ford Crown Victorias used as police cruisers now have high mileage and aren’t safe for police activity. Money from those vehicles, as well as all seized vehicles, will go into the general fund.
“We have lots of seized and confiscated vehicles to be sold,” Hoskinson said.
Other vehicle types being auctioned Saturday include models from Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Pontiac and Volkswagon.
Attendees can begin viewing the auction items at 8:30 a.m. Saturday — mechanics will have the vehicles running.
In total the auction, led by auctioneer Kramer & Kramer, Inc., takes around three hours. Hoskinson said there are never excess items after the auction.
