FAIRFIELD TWP. — The Board of Education at Butler Tech has retained the Ohio School Boards Association to conduct a search to replace its departing CEO, Robert D. Sommers.
Sommers recently accepted the CEO post with Cornerstone Schools, a newly formed charter management company in Detroit.
The board on Jan. 19 accepted his resignation effective Feb. 16, said Bill Solazzo, director of marketing for Butler Tech.
One of the board’s first steps is to begin working on a profile of the ideal candidate, he said.
“This board has already started brainstorming that work. Within the next two weeks, we should have a time when the OSBA representative comes down and firms that up, and formalizes it,” he said.
“They’ll take the brainstorming notes that the board has come up with to kind of guide them through a process to come up with a profile that then OSBA will use to do initial screening on applicants.”
Brett Guido, a Monroe Local Schools board member and a district representative on the Butler Tech board, said the board plans to meet with OSBA prior to its work session Feb. 6.
Solazzo said tentative plans call for the board to make a job offer to a candidate in May or June.
“That would be the ideal situation,” he said. Solazzo said the board recently chose to retain OSBA’s services after hearing presentations from the group and a private firm, TNA Associates in Westerville.
