Butler County native named editor of Journal-News

Butler County native Jennifer Burcham has been named editor of the Journal-News, where she will oversee digital and print content operations for Cox Media Group Ohio.

“Jenni is the right person to lead the Journal-News newsroom. She cares about the communities she covers and will guide us in our growing digital-first operation,” said Terry Bouquot, director of sales for Cox Media Group Ohio’s northern Cincinnati operations.

“I am honored to lead a staff of journalists who have expertise in covering Butler County,” Burcham said. “I look forward to continuing to bring readers news they have told us is most important to them — government spending, jobs, personal and public safety and what is happening in our schools. Even better, I get to do that in the county where I grew up, still live and work in.”

Burcham grew up in West Chester Twp. and later lived in Hamilton. She now resides in Liberty Twp. with her son and husband.

Burcham has been with Cox Media Group Ohio for more than 11 years, serving Journal-News readers for much of that time.

She began her career as a copy editor and designer in Middletown. She held leadership roles in the company’s combined copy desk, including being named dayside operations manager in 2009. Burcham helped restructure Cox Media Group Ohio’s digital team in 2012.

Later that same year, she returned to the Journal-News newsroom as assistant editor, where she played key roles in its daily and weekly papers and websites.

Burcham leads an experienced staff whose work this year has included coverage of the Madison Twp. school shooting, the 8th District race to replace former Speaker of the House John Boehner and the rapid growth from the Liberty Center shopping, dining and entertainment complex.

“Our printed newspaper has considerably more Butler County news than any other source in the region. Our Journal-News team is a leader in digital and social media reach, helping us serve our readers with the news they want and how they want it,” Bouquot said.
