Brother of House Speaker Boehner dies at age 60

Richard “Rick” A. Boehner, the blue-collar mechanic and brother of John Boehner, died Saturday. He was 60.

His brother, John, of West Chester Twp., is Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Boehner; step-children Nicole (Brian) Pitman and Alan (Sabrina) Studer; grandchildren Sierra, Tristan, Aubrey, Annabelle, Noah and Brooke; brothers Bob (Nancy) Boehner, John (Deborah) Boehner, Steve (Dodie) Boehner, Drew (Debbie) Boehner, Greg Boehner, Pete (Terri) Boehner, Jerry (Jennifer) Boehner and Mike (Dena) Boehner; sisters Nancy (Jerry) Roell, Lynda (Jeff) Meineke and Susan (Fritz) Knueven; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mary Anne Boehner.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday until funeral service at Hodapp Funeral Home, 6410 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, Liberty Twp.

On the funeral home’s website, Brian Pitman, his step-son-in-law, wrote: “I will miss Rick greatly. He was always willing to help me out and often gave me advice. It will be difficult not to need to call him when I need help or don’t know how to do something.”

Olivia Hnat, a spokesperson for John Boehner said: “The Speaker is saddened by the death of his brother, who was cherished and loved by so many. He appreciates the prayers for the Boehner family at this time.”
