Boy, 3, identified as victim of Butler County swimming pool drowning

The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office has identified a boy who drowned Friday night in a family swimming pool.

Miles Farmer, 3, was found in a Ross Twp. family pool. He was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Emergency responders were called around 7:45 p.m. to the 4000 block of Leona Court.

The coroner’s office said the cause of death is pending further investigation.

After autopsy results are released later this week, Ross Twp. police Chief Burton Roberts said he will meet with the coroner and the prosecutor’s office to determine whether any charges would be filed. He didn’t want to discuss the case further, saying the investigation is continuing.

More than 3,700 Americans drowned in 2017, including more than 700 under the age of 14, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics.

About 10 people drown every day in the United States, where drowning is the fifth-leading cause of unintentional injury death, according to the CDC. About one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger, and for every child who dies from drowning, another five are rescued, the agency said.
