Big weekend: 4 Butler County teams seek regional titles, cross country runners compete at state

Multiple area high school sports teams and cross country runners will be competing for titles this weekend.

The state cross country meet takes place Saturday at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, and four teams in boys and girls soccer and volleyball will play for regional titles on Saturday (a regional title advances a team to the state finals).

Here’s a look at which area teams are playing:

BOYS SOCCER

Lakota East (15-3-3) will face Moeller (18-1-2) at 4 p.m. Saturday at Princeton High School in a Division I regional final. The team last advanced to the state tournament in 1999.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lakota West (19-0-2) will face Loveland (16-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Princeton High School in a Division I regional final. The team last advanced to the state tournament in 1999, when it won the state title. It also played in the state tournament in 1994.

Monroe (20-0) will face Alter (18-1-1) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lebanon High School in a Division II regional final. The team has never advanced to the state semifinals.

VOLLEYBALL

Fenwick will face Roger Bacon at 6 p.m. Saturday at Vandalia Butler High School in a Division II regional final. The team has won one state championship (2010) and also advanced to the state semifinals in 2018, 2015, 2009 and 1980.
