The Ross Township fire levy won an easy victory in Tuesday’s election, with all six precincts in the township having had their votes counted.

Voters who supported the 2.75-mill levy accounted for 72.5 percent of the vote, with another 27.5 percent opposing it, according to unofficial results from the Butler County Board of Elections.

The trustees sought a renewal levy that would generate $522,275 for fire and paramedic services. The renewal means taxes won’t increase. Township Trustee Tom Willsey said officials are opting for a renewal because it will carry the department for the next few years and they don’t want to jeopardize their residents’ Homestead exemptions.

“We’ve stayed within our budget, we ran the department wisely, we did the things we wanted to do, we hired the full-time people, we’re providing the 24/7 coverage in two stations,” Willsey said previously. “We’re doing all the things that we do and we don’t feel the loss of the Homestead exemption tax is worth the difference. It would put a big burden on our people.”
