For the first time in six years, the Ohio Department of Education has returned to using the traditional A-F grades as part of the state’s annual measurement of its 613 public school systems.

Locally, half of the 10 Butler County school districts received Bs, including Monroe Local Schools, which also had the county’s highest graduation rate.

Monroe’s graduation rate was 97.2 percent, followed by Ross Schools at 96.6; Madison Schools at 94.5; and Lakota Schools at 94.4 percent.

Kathy Demers, superintendent of Monroe Schools, said while the district has more work to do, the schools are encouraged by its best-in-the-county graduation rate.

“We are excited to see this indicator rise as it means many of our students are successfully finishing high school with a diploma thus giving them the skills to pursue higher education or a technical field or career immediately following high school,” said Demers.
