Dayton bakery open less than 5 months named ‘Best Pie Shop in Ohio’

A family-owned Dayton bakery that opened its doors on July 31, has been named as the “Best Pie Shop in Ohio,” just five months later.

USA Today and its editorial-content partner 24/7 Wall Street bestowed that honor in a Saturday, Dec. 15 post on USAToday.com to Partial to Pie, the pie bakery at 200 Shroyer Road in Dayton.

The retail bakery, founded by Marie Clark and her father Mike Clark of Kettering, provides dine-in and carry-out services, specializing in pies, quiche and sweet treats. The bakery is located at the corner of Shroyer Road and Wilmington Pike, in space that had been vacant for several years but which previously housed AAA Stripping and Refinishing.

The shop has been a busy place since it opened, often exhausting its supplies of pies and quiches before closing time, especially on Saturdays.

USAToday.com and 24/7 Wall Street published a web photo gallery declaring the "Best Pie Shop in Every State." Here's how the authors described their methodology in selecting each state's best:

“In order to determine the best pie shop in every state, 24/7 Wall St. obtained for each state the five pie shops, bakeries, or pastry shops rated highest on restaurant review website Yelp! We reviewed each state’s set of shops and chose the best candidate based on its pie menu and accolades. In the handful of cases where Yelp! did not return a viable candidate, we consulted reviews and other ratings and used our editorial discretion to make our choice. We excluded shops operating predominantly as restaurants or wholesale businesses, as well as units of large chains.”

Reached on Dec. 17, Marie Clark said she wanted to give “a big thank you to all of our loyal customers in such a short period of time.”
