Ex-inmate awarded $10K in lawsuit against Lebanon prison

A former prison inmate has been awarded $10,000 after settling a personal injury lawsuit, stemming from a 2010 incident at the Lebanon Correctional Institution.

Christopher Jackson said he was struck and run over by a state vehicle, which was driven by a corrections officer, on June 20, 2010. Jackson was cutting grass at the prison when he was hit. The prison, Jackson said, didn’t give him any medical treatment for 10 days and he was ordered to go back to his job at the prison just three days after the accident.

Jackson sued the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the Office of Risk Management for negligence, according to a news release from The Supreme Court of Ohio. Jackson said he’s suffered from chronic back and neck pain since the incident.

Officials with the corrections department and the risk management office argued Jackson was partially responsible for the accident.

The Court of Claims of Ohio approved the $10,000 settlement on July 28.
