Fairfield Police responded to an injury accident at 11:18 p.m. in the 6200 block of Winton Road and found a white 2006 Infinity M35 engulfed in flames with an occupant in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, according to police.
Fairfield Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. A preliminary investigation shows that a 2015 Jeep Cherokee was southbound on Winton Road and a 1995 Toyota Camry was northbound on Winton Road. The 2006 Infinity M35 was also northbound and traveling at a high rate of speed, according to police.
The Infinity M35 passed the Toyota Camry on a double yellow line and the Infinity’s driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the Jeep Cherokee head on. The Jeep Cherokee spun into the northbound lane of Winton Road and was struck in the side by the Toyota Camry, police said.
The Infinity M35 then veered off the west side of the road and struck a utility pole, immediately becoming engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was transported to Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital by life squad for non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation.
