Home Depot hiring 600 Cincinnati-area workers for spring

HOW TO APPLY

All applicants must apply online at www.careers.homedepot.com

Sub-zero temperatures may be lingering, but that isn’t stopping Home Depot from looking ahead to spring.

The home improvement giant said Wednesday it is hiring 600 workers in the Cincinnati market, and more than 80,000 temporary workers nationwide in anticipation of its big spring selling season, the busiest time of the year for the company. Those seasonal hiring numbers are identical to what Home Depot projected last year.

The company has 14 stores in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area including retail locations in Hamilton, Lebanon, Mason and West Chester Twp. Each store is hiring approximately 45 new employees for the season, spokeswoman Catherine Woodling said.

Spring is busiest for the company as consumers ramp up yard work, including planting in gardens, building decks and pruning trees. They also take on indoor projects, such as painting and installing laminate and hardwood flooring.

All applicants must apply online at www.careers.homedepot.com, Home Depot said.

Students, retirees, veterans and reservists are encouraged to apply. Veterans and reservists interested in employment can use Home Depot’s online military skills translator to match their military skills to positions within the company. More information is available online at www.homedepotmilitary.com.

The seasonal jobs are a good fit for students “often looking for jobs that fit within their class schedules and college breaks. Also, many vocational school students make great associates because they are uniquely knowledgeable about home improvement,” Woodling said in an email. “Retirees often make great associates because they are customer service focused, flexible and typically have years of experience taking care of their own homes or apartments.”

On the military front, Atlanta, Ga.-based Home Depot has made a commitment to hire 55,000 veterans over the next five years. Nearly 18,000 veterans were hired toward that goal in 2013, Woodling said.

Competitor Lowe’s Home Improvement will announce its seasonal hiring plans at a later date, a spokesperson with the company said.

Home Depot distribution center hiring

In addition to seasonal hiring at retail stores, Home Depot is also taking applications online for its distribution center in Monroe. The distribution center is hiring for about 80 full- and part-time warehouse positions in various work shifts.

Home Depot’s Monroe Rapid Deployment Center opened in 2009 at 500 Gateway Blvd. It currently has approximately 226 employees, according to Woodling.
