A 49-year-old Hamilton man who “loved life,” his family, coaching and umpiring baseball and fast-pitch softball and the Tennessee Volunteers died following a July 4 motorcycle crash, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert Miles lost control of his motorcycle and hit a guardrail at 2:05 p.m. Thursday in the 4300 block of Reily Millville Road, according to the accident report. He was not wearing a helmet, the report read.

Miles died from head trauma, and his death was ruled an accident by the Butler County Coroner’s Office.

His passenger and wife, Jaime Kelly-Miles, was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The hospital was not permitted to release her condition, but friends said she suffered numerous broken bones.

Miles and said Travis Riley, a close friend, started coaching in the Hamilton/Fairfield community in 2003, and remained friends.

“He got enjoyment out of giving back to the community through coaching,” Riley said.

Another friend, David Garrity, said if Miles was “on the diamond, he was happy.”

He also loved the Tennessee Volunteers. His house was “a shrine” to Tennessee, and his car was orange, the team’s color, Riley said.

Riley remembered taking an eight-day trip with Miles when they watched Major League Baseball games in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York Mets and New York Yankees.

Besides his wife, he’s survived by five biological and three step-children.
