Butler County residents will soon have more places to donate clothing and household items.

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries plans to open a new 10,000-square-foot retail and donation center at 203 South Locust St. in Oxford in mid to late fall, according to Goodwill spokesman George Palmer.

“We do not have (a location) at all there,” Palmer said. “That’s a whole new area for us.”

Palmer said South Locust Street is “very viable donation site,” not only because of the rural areas surrounding Oxford, but because of those enrolled at Miami University.

“There are students who reside there and move out and leave things behind,” Palmer said. “We’re hoping that now they will be a little more environmentally conscious and donate to us at that location.”

The agency is also scheduled to open a new 11,338-square-foot attended donation center June 3 at 7773 Cincinnati-Dayton Road, just north of Tylersville Road, in addition to donation location operated at Tylersville and Cox Roads near Big Lots.

“That trailer site is one of our biggest sites, so often times it’s at capacity,” Palmer said. “This will provide us another location to collect donations.”

Goodwill spent $710,000 in April for the West Chester site and $650,000 in January for the Oxford site, according to data from the Butler County Auditor’s Office.

The agency will hire four full-time and part-time employees for its West Chester site and seven employees for its Oxford site.

Once opened, the two new locations will be part of 30 Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries sites in the region, including ones in Fairfield, Liberty Twp. and Mason. Sixteen locations are retail stores where donations are accepted, while the remainder are solely donation centers.

Goodwill locations accept clean, usable clothing, shoes, household items including small electric appliances and kitchen items, children’s items, seasonal items, sporting goods, furniture and vehicle donations.

The drive-thru center will be staffed with an attendant who will assist contributors with their donations and offer them a receipt.
