Jennings now leads the department after former fire chief Steve Bishop submitted his resignation for retirement Sept. 28, which was effective immediately, according to his letter.
The trustees have not set a timetable to select a new fire chief.
Jennings has been a member of the department since 1996. He became a lieutenant in 20001 and a captain in 2011, according to township records.
Jennings is certified as a Firefighter II, a fire safety inspector, and as an emergency medical technician, according to the Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Services certification verification website.
In addition to Bishop, Trustee President Brian Morris said Assistant Fire Chief John Daly would also be submitting his retirement papers.
Morris said the trustees became aware in the past few weeks that the volunteer firefighter certifications for Bishop and Daly had expired.
