Fort Hamilton Sleep Center moving to new location

Fort Hamilton Hospital is moving its Sleep Center to a bigger space across the street.

The hospital started leasing space Oct. 1 in the basement of nonprofit Community First Solutions’ headquarters on Eaton Avenue in Hamilton, according to hospital spokeswoman Elizabeth Long.

The new space will allow the Sleep Center to grow from three patient beds to six beds, and offer more services, according to Long. The move will happen at the end of the year, with renovations taking place in the meantime.

The Sleep Center at Fort Hamilton opened about 26 years ago, Long said.

Sleep specialists meet with patients individually to discuss sleep habits, lifestyle and health history, Long said. Patients spend the night in specially-equipped bedrooms and updated monitoring equipment lets the specialists record sleep patterns, breathing patterns and oxygen to help diagnose sleep disorders.

The amount of the hospital’s investment in equipment and renovation work was not available.
