Fairfield hotel gets $3 million upgrade

One of the city’s largest hotels, the Hampton Inn on Kolb Drive, has unveiled more than $3 million in renovations.

It is the first major upgrade to the hotel in its 12 years, said the sales director, Cathy Decker. It took a year and three months to complete the work, for which the hotel never had to close.

Kert Radel, the president of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, said the renovations bode well for the area’s economy.

“It’s a really positive sign to make this kind of investment for the Fairfield and Forest Park area,” he said.

The chamber and other local organizations often use the Hampton Inn to lodge high-profile guests that come to town, such as speakers at dinners or concert performers, he said.

The renovation will be immediately apparent to any previous guest. The lobby has been upgraded to what Hampton Inn calls the “Perfect Mix Lobby,” offering guests a chance to work or relax or eat a hot breakfast each morning.

“The whole lobby desk was moved … it was back further, and you couldn’t access it (easily). What’s neat about this is it’s for use the whole day. They can come and here and the table has hookups for computers or phones or anything else you need to charge,” Decker said.

That will be beneficial for the hotel’s many business clients, the largest of which is Cincinnati Insurance.

“Technology of course is huge in making sure the guests have what they want,” said Decker.

Other renovations include a refurbished swimming pool area and a greatly expanded exercise room, filled with new equipment, including treadmills, ellipticals and weights. A former meeting room was converted into the fitness room, and the meeting room was moved to a different, also refurbished space.

Each of the hotel’s 100 bedrooms was also renovated with new flat screen TVs, new furniture and upgraded bathrooms.

“There’s new carpet, wallpaper … they stripped the rooms down completely,” Decker said.
