A Franklin Twp. teen may face additional charges in connection to a non-fatal shooting last month.

The teen is accused of using a rifle to shoot his mother’s boyfriend while he was sleeping the morning of May 25 at their home in the 3700 block of Wilson Farms Boulevard.

The shooting caused serious injury to the victim’s right shoulder area but was non-life threatening.

The teen was charged with attempted murder and domestic violence and taken to the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center.

Prosecutors plan to add charges of felonious assault and gun specifications against the 16-year-old boy, according to court documents obtained by this news outlet.

In addition, prosecutors also said they are considering whether or not a mandatory bind-over to adult court or adding a serious youth offender designation may be appropriate.

The teen will be arraigned on the additional charges June 15.

The teen’s attorney, Andrew Brenner, said he would be filing a “suggestion of incompetence,” according to court documents.

The court ordered the youth to undergo a competency evaluation as well as a psychological evaluation before the next hearing date.
