WATCH: Destroyed car pulled from woods behind school after crews use buckets to put out fire

UPDATE @ 5:50 p.m.

Lt. Frank Baughman from the Middletown Division of Fire said since the car was located several hundred yards off a road, buckets of water from the nearby creek were used to extinguish the fire.

He said the car was reported stolen from Liberty Twp. around 5:30 a.m. and the fire department received a call six hours later of smoke in the area.

He said no one was inside the vehicle.

Canine Scottie helped with the investigation, Baughman said.

He said the fire is suspicious, but remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the fire department at 513-425-7996.

INITIAL REPORT

A car reported stolen was found burning Monday afternoon in woods behind Amanda Elementary School, 1300 Oxford State Road, according to a police report.

When police and fire crews arrived at noon, they saw flames coming from the wood line near SunCoke Energy. Police officers said they heard multiple “pops,” probably from the tires and air bags, the report read.

The Middletown fire department, unable to drive a truck back to the car, put out the flames by carrying buckets of water, a fire official said. A firefighter read the license plate that came back as a white Acura that was reported stolen through Butler County Sheriff’s Office Monday morning.

The owner was contacted and he told police he had full insurance and he left the vehicle unlocked. The car was valued at $12,000, according to the fire report.

Mark’s Towing was called, but the owner told police he couldn’t get his tow truck back there.
