Police doubtful shooting suspects linked to rash of street robberies

Two Hamilton men and a Trenton woman charged in shooting and armed robbery at a drive-through.

HAMILTON — Hamilton police say they have nabbed the people responsible for the weekend shooting and armed robbery at a local drive-through, but are doubtful the trio are the culprits in a rash of recent violent street robberies.

“There is nothing that points to them being involved in the other street robberies,” Lt. Scott Scrimizzi said Monday, Jan. 4.

Tre’wan A. Heard, 18, of the 2100 block of Freeman Avenue in Hamilton, is charged with felonious assault and aggravated robbery. Lindsay Gail Taylor, 19, of the 3600 block of Trenton Road in Trenton, has been charged with aggravated robbery and complicity to felonious assault; and James Terrell Hughley, 19, also of the Freeman Avenue address, is charged with complicity to aggravated robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability and driving under suspension, for the robbery of Minnick’s Drive-Thru, 1990 Dixie Highway, and the shooting of employee Jacob Williams on Jan. 2.

Williams was treated and released from The Fort Hamilton Hospital that night, according to hospital officials.

Heard, Taylor and Hughley were arraigned Monday, Jan. 4 in Hamilton Municipal Court where a preliminary hearing for all three was scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday. Bond for Heard and Hughley was set at $300,000 each and at $200,000 for Taylor.

The clerk’s assault was the fourth reported shooting in Hamilton in less than a week.

A woman reported being shot at in her car at the Splash and Dash car wash on Grand Boulevard while she tried to chase down an armed robber who took her purse. Earlier in the week a Fairfield man was shot and seriously injured while leaving a bar on Shuler Avenue and a Hamilton man was shot near his home on South Front Street.

Additional aggravated robberies were reported at Kenton’s 12th Street Market, Shadow Creek Drive, Belle Avenue and at the intersection of East and Maple avenues.

Scrimizzi said some or all of the street robberies may be related.

“For all I know they could all be related,” Scrimizzi said. “I do believe there are people in the community who know who is committing the street robberies.”

The lieutenant said the department is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect. He did not say the amount of the reward. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Greg Baker at (513) 868-5811 ext.1223 or the detective section at (513) 868-5811 ext. 2002.
