Homeless couple in court Monday for alleged attempted bank robbery

A homeless couple will have a preliminary hearing Monday in Middletown Municipal Court in connection with a Dec. 10 attempted robbery at a local bank.

Maj. Scott Reeve said Dennis Matthew Lemmel, 30, of Harveysburg, attempted to rob the American Savings Bank, 701 University Blvd.

According to the report, bank personnel called police to report a suspicious white male who told employees that he was going to rob the bank. However, police were told the suspect had left in a sedan with no other description.

Reeve said patrol officers later located the car and suspect. He said Lemmel had a heroin problem and that he and Angelina Miller, 40, of Middletown, had been living in the car.

She is also being held in the Middletown City Jail under a $15,000 bond.

Both are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing set for 1:30 p.m. Monday to determine if there is sufficient evidence to forward the case to a Butler County grand jury for further consideration.
