Fairfield police have charged a 33-year-old woman with murder, after police found her boyfriend dead Tuesday at an apartment building.

Police were called at 5:15 p.m. to 5419 Eastgate Drive, an apartment building about a half-mile southwest of the city’s Village Green Park.

When police arrived, they found David Mitchell, 41, dead, according to a report. Stephanie Gabbard was arrested “in connection” with his death, police said today.

Mitchell and Gabbard lived in the apartment together and were in a relationship, according to police.

Investigators have not yet released any other details, including how Mitchell died. The Butler County Coroner’s office has not yet released an autopsy report.

Police released a 911 call made by a friend of Gabbard’s, who said the woman had called him crying and was “hysterical.”

“It’s not really life threatening right now, but it could be,” the man told the dispatcher at 5:14 p.m. Tuesday.

He also told the dispatcher the woman has “been in and out of abusive relationships.”

Gabbard is being held in the Butler County Jail on a $1 million bond after being arraigned today in Fairfield Municipal Court, according to court and jail records. Attorney Tina Barrett was appointed to represent Gabbard by Fairfield Municipal Court Judge Joyce Campbell.

Gabbard is scheduled to appear Sept. 13 in Fairfield Municipal Court.
