Cincinnati woman indicted for Hamilton bank robbery

A Cincinnati woman has been indicted for the robbery of a Hamilton bank this summer.

Virginia M. Allateef, 33, of Burnett Avenue in Cincinnati, was indicted today for robbery, a second-degree felony, and theft, a fifth-degree felony, for the July 22 robbery of Key Bank on Main Street in Hamilton. She was also indicted on two additional counts of robbery and theft for a crime that occurred July 6.

Allateef, alias “Chocolate Ginny” according court records, is accused of entering the bank and handing the teller a note that demanded money or people outside would come in with guns, according to the warrant signed by Detective Paul Webb on Sept. 18.

“Ms. Allateef was identified by numerous people on Crimestoppers and also by a witness that has known her for 21 years. Ms. Allateef was also picked out of a photo lineup by teller,” says the warrant obtained by the Journal-News.

Following a preliminary hearing in Hamilton Municipal Court on Sept. 30, Allateef’s case was bound over to a grand jury for consideration. Her bond is set at $50,000.

Jeremy Evans, Allateef’s attorney at the preliminary hearing, said there are some “problems” with the identification of Allateef by a witness, and he also noted she has no criminal background.

Evans said Allateef also told police about a person who may be involved in the bank robberies and who recently bought a car with cash. That person is the one who identified Allateef, Evans said.
