2 charged in Middletown homicides in court today

Two people facing murder charges for separate Middletown homicides that happened in February will be in court for arraignment today.

Dawn Shearer, 46, of Ellis Way, was indicted last week for murder and felonious assault in the shooting death of her ex-husband, Tony Shearer, on Feb. 6. She call 911 and told dispatchers she had shot Shearer, according to police.

Defense attorney Jason Phillabaum said at a preliminary hearing that she acted in self-defense.

Willie Boyd Jr., 21, of addresses in Dayton and Franklin, was also indicted last week for murder and is accused of firing three rounds from a handgun, hitting Jamelle C. Willis, 29, in the back during an argument on Feb. 16 at 2014 Tytus Ave.

Boyd fled from the scene, but turned himself into Middletown police after a warrant for his arrest was issued. He remains housed in the Butler County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

The fatal shooting occurred at a recording studio called Collective Studio Inc., which listed Boyd as studio director. Detectives were told the victim and suspect are close friends and the shooting resulted from an argument inside the business at 2014 Tytus Ave.

Both Shearer and Boyd will be arraigned by Judge Jennifer McElfresh this afternoon.
