UPDATE: Hamilton driver cited after running red light, causing crash

UPDATE @ 11:30 a.m.

A police report indicates the driver of a 2007 Saturn Vue was traveling northbound on S. Washington Blvd. at 5:45 a.m. when she ran the flashing red light and crashed into a 2017 blue Ford Escape that was traveling eastbound on Millville Avenue.

The 41-year-old female driver of the Saturn crashed into the traffic pole and was taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries, according to police. The other driver, a 55-year-old woman, refused transport.  The driver of the Saturn was cited for disobeying a traffic signal.

UPDATE @ 8:30 a.m.

The intersection of Millville Ave and S. Washington Blvd. is now open.

The intersection lights have been temporarily tied up for partial function until crews can fix the damage. The lights will be on set on flash. Police are asking drivers to use caution and travel slowly through this intersection until they become fully operational again.

INITIAL REPORT

A car crash has disabled a traffic light in Hamilton on Tuesday morning, and traffic is being diverted around the intersection.

An injury accident happened at around 5:45 a.m. at Millville and South Washington. The traffic lights were damaged in the accident. The intersection will be closed for an indefinite amount of time.

Hamilton police are advising drivers to find another route.

No other information about the crash was immediately available.
