“She was always smiling,” her son said. “If you asked her how she was feeling, she’d say, ‘I’m just fabulous,’ even when you knew she didn’t feel so fabulous.”
Charlotte Moon, born and raised in Middletown, died Thursday at home. She was 95.

“She lived a long and healthy life,” said Craig Moon, who noted his mother was hospitalized once in her life, excluding childbirth.
She graduated from Middletown High School in 1941 and Miami University in 1945, earning a double major in biology and physical education. She taught at East High School in Columbus, Monroe High School and was an instructor at Miami University.
She volunteered many years with Doty House (now Abilities First) where she served on its board of directors and was its first woman president.
Tal Moon, one of her grandchildren, said he was named to the Abilities First board last year, and following in his grandmother’s footsteps made it “extra special.”
She also owned a “tremendous sweet tooth,” her grandson said. He thoroughly enjoyed taking his grandmother to UDF for ice cream, then driving her through Middletown’s historic district where she gave him a history lesson. She knew the background of many people who lived on Main Street, he said.
Those who attend Moon’s funeral also will get a taste of her sweet tooth. On Saturday, Craig Moon purchased 60 UDF gift cards and will pass them out at his mom’s funeral.
“Something different,” he said.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with the Rev. Michael Isaacs officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
