Carlisle buried baby case: Protesters confront Brooke Skylar Richardson and her family outside court

UPDATE @ 12:26 p.m.: After the hearing, the Richardson family was confronted by two protesters as they walked from the court building back to their SUV in the parking lot.

Cherie Young and Karen Miller shouted “abortion is legal, murder is not” and “we are the voice of your baby.”

Both women held colorful signs that said “Justice for baby Carlisle.”

The Richardson family made no comments to the protesters.

Brooke Skylar Richardson’s five-day trial has been set for Nov. 6.

A gag order was continued for all parties involved.

The Richardson family walked into the courtroom united, with Richardson sitting in the front row with her parents. Her electronic monitoring ankle bracelet was visible.

Warren County Common Pleas Judge Donald Oda II announced a trial date had been set for Nov. 6, with three pre-trial hearings between the end of August and October.

FIRST REPORT

A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for this morning in the case of a Carlisle teen accused of killing her baby.

Brooke Skylar Richardson, 18, is charged with aggravated murder and other felonies for allegedly purposely killing her baby after birth on May 6 or 7, then burning and burying the body in the backyard of her home.

The defense and prosecution are expected to meet today to discuss future court hearings and deadlines and to possibly set a trial date.

Richardson, a member of the Carlisle High School class of 2017, is charged with aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, endangering children, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

She was placed under house arrest with an ankle monitor as a condition of her bond.

Defense attorney Charlie M. Rittgers says Richardson did not kill her baby.

Prosecutors and detectives are continuing to investigate the case.
