Artspace to break ground May 2

Artspace and Neighborhood Housing Services of Hamilton will break ground on the Artspace Hamilton Lofts on High Street on May 2.

The $11.8 million project, a partnership between NHS and national arts facilities developer Artspace, will result in 42 live/work units for local artists, as well as 3,000 square feet of ground commercial space to invite arts-related businesses downtown.

The groundbreaking ceremony will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Mercantile Lofts Atrium at 236 High St., with brief remarks from city administration, Hamilton Community Foundation and Fitton Center for the Arts representatives, and Artspace representatives, among others, and a performance by the Miami Valley Ballet Theater, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking. Light refreshments will be served.

The ceremony will be followed by a Roaring Twenties-themed after party at 9 p.m. at the Fitton Center, 101 S. Monument St., including live music and a cash bar.

Artspace is scheduled to open for tenants in January 2015, according to Hamilton City Councilman Tim Naab.
