$2,600, including school fundraiser money, stolen from home

Middletown police are investigating a burglary at a home in the 4100 block of Bonita Drive, where more than $2,600 in cash, including a student’s money from a candy fundraiser, was stolen.

Police went to the home Saturday night after a family got home and saw that furniture had been moved and a window was open, and discovered money was missing, according to a police report.

A resident told police that $2,540 in cash was stolen from a dresser drawer. The dresser was open and the mattress in the room had been moved, the report read.

Another $93 was stolen off the kitchen table and $33 from a sale of candy was stolen from a Middletown Middle School student. The boy made the money from selling candy bars and he was upset because he didn’t have the money to replace the stolen money, according to the report.

The residents told police they were gone for about six hours, and when they returned home, everything in the house was “messed up,” the report read.

The only thing missing from the house was cash, police said.
