He was hit by a silver Toyota. The driver of that vehicle fled, but has since been located.
The incident on Wednesday shut down Symmes Road between Ohio 4 and Hicks Boulevard. It occurred during afternoon rush hour traffic and the other vehicle involved fled the scene.
Fairfield police said as of Thursday morning the Whitehead is in critical condition.
The incident remains under investigation.
