FAIRFIELD — Halloween just ended and it’s time to get a little taste of Christmas.

The Fairfield Community Arts Center presents the play “The Man Who Came To Dinner” and gives the public many opportunities to see it. There are showings at 8 p.m. on Nov. 12, 13, 19, 20 and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 and 21.

The play includes actors ages 20 to 50 from the Fairfield Footlighters, a group that has been together since 2001. The Footlighters stage four performances a year including plays and musicals.

“The cast is really talented,” said Dana Bruce Berry, director of the play, “and they are good at pulling out the quirks of the different characters.”

The play is a comedy set in 1939 about a well-known radio personality, Sheridan Whiteside, played by Michael Schlotterbeck. He comes to Ohio to do a lecture and during his stay injures himself. Therefore, he ends up confined in the house of a prominent family for three weeks, including the Christmas holiday. He is treated like a modern-day movie star and has an attitude to match.

While in Ohio, his secretary Maggie, played by Sarah Robards, develops a relationship with a journalist. Mr. Whiteside is considered “the worst thing since the depression” and proves that by trying desperately to break up this newfound romance. He is the Scrooge of the holiday.

The actors portray the feelings of the characters with great ease and hold their composure when the script is sure to get some laughs. There is never a dull moment.

The play is rated PG and has sophisticated language and references, so young children are not suggested to come.

In the spirit of Christmas the Footlighters ask that when the public comes to a showing they bring some nonperishable items to donate to the Fairfield Food Pantry.

The shows will take place the center’s theater that seats 237 people. Tickets are on sale now and available online, at the center or by calling 513-867-5348.
