About the movies
The Road to Emmaus, PA: A documentary-style film that takes an RV road trip from Jerusalem, Ohio, to Emmaus, Penn., reenacting a Biblical journey from the book of Luke. What begins as an investigative experiment ends as a poignant story of post-modern pilgrimage and communal awakening.
Fenced Off: Based on a true story of a friend, the movie addresses possible hidden racial tension. What starts off as a day of yard work and random to-dos for the new neighbors turns into a series of misunderstandings and confrontation. The film explores the reality that loving your neighbor can be complicated.
A Strange Brand of Happy: The PG-13 rated movie is a romantic comedy, starring Boyd, Rebecca St. James, Shirley Jones and Marty Ingels that offers a hopeful message about discovering yourself and connecting with others. The story revolves around an aimless bachelor loses his job and finds himself chasing the same girl as his manipulative ex-boss.
Liberty Twp. resident, Joe Boyd, and his movie-making company, Rebel Pilgrim Productions, are celebrating a recent home entertainment distribution partnership with Bridgestone Multimedia Group (BMG).
“We are thrilled to have found a partner in BMG. They are getting our films out to the world. We look forward to working with them on many of our future projects as well,” said Joe Boyd, president, actor and producer, Rebel Pilgrim Productions. “It gives us a platform all across the nation for people to see our movies.”
Beginning earlier this month, the Cincinnati-based film and television production company announced a three-picture deal with Fenced Off, A Strange Brand of Happy and The Road to Emmaus, PA, that will enable consumers to purchase the movies on DVD at nationwide retailers including Walmart, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Sears, Family Christian Stores, Lifeway and at Amazon.com.
According to Boyd, Rebel Pilgrim currently has six movies and one television pilot in development for 2014. Additionally, the film Hope Bridge starring Booboo Stewart (Twilight) and Kevin Sorbo (Hercules) is expected to release this summer.
“Personally, it’s been really cool to see all of the hard work come to fruition, and to see it grow. All of our movies are more than entertainment, they always offer a message of hope,” said Boyd. “We have a good foundation and we’re building to do even more. We’re committed to Cincinnati and we love making movies here.”
In his dual career as an ordained Christian minister and as an entertainment professional, Boyd grew up in Ohio and studied at Cincinnati Christian University. He started taking acting and improv classes as a hobby, which led him to hosting a comedy show on the Vegas strip. Currently, he works full-time as the president of Rebel Pilgrim Productions.
A Strange Brand of Happy, which was set and produced entirely in Cincinnati, played in 45 theaters in 40 cities in 2013. Rebel Pilgrim reported that it was the second highest performing movie in per screen average for Cincinnati the week of Sept. 13, 2013. For the latest news and updates, visit www.rebelpilgrim.com.
