Bulk meat seller coming to area

A Spokane, Washington-based company is bringing a temporary drive-through meat market to Southwest Ohio in which customers can order beef, pork and chicken in bulk amounts and pick it up without leaving their cars.

Zaycon Foods (www.zayconfoods.com) will be delivering orders in the Dayton, Springfield and Cincinnati areas in early March: from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 4 at Crossgate Bowling Lanes at 4230 Hunt Road in Cincinnati; from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. March 5 at the First Pentecostal Church at 8921 N. Dixie Drive in Harrison Twp. near Dayton; and from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 5 at Greater Grace Temple at 380 W. Leffel Lane in Springfield, Alyson Brodsky, a spokeswoman for Zaycon, said Thursday.

The company requires customers to register and pay for their orders in advance prior to pickup. There is no charge to register. Items are sold by the case only, and cases range from 15 to 40 pounds. Cases of chicken, ground beef, ham, bacon and fish are delivered fresh, not frozen, “where possible,” Zaycon officials said in a news release.

Prices are typically 50 percent less than retail meat departments, “in part because (customers) are buying in bulk and need to divide it up for storage,” Zaycon officials said. The company offered an example of chicken breasts that sell for “as little as $1.69 a pound for a 40-pound case.”
