The new year will begin cold and breezy with scattered snow showers in the morning, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

There will be a slight chance of rain and snow in the early afternoon, then a slight chance of snow through nightfall.

Highs will be around 36 degrees.

Tonight, there will be scattered flurries before midnight, but otherwise it will be mostly cloudy, breezy and cold, with lows around 25 degrees.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny with highs around 36 degrees. Overnight there will be a chance of snow as temperatures fall to around 26 degrees.

Friday will be mostly cloudy, with highs around 31 degrees and lows around 17 degrees.
