It will be dry for most of St. Patrick’s Day, but showers, storms return Wednesday night

It will be mostly cloudy and cool, with overnight temperatures falling to around 40 degrees.

Enjoy the dry, sunny weather for St. Patrick’s day while you can, because showers and thunderstorms are expected tomorrow night through Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. Up to three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible overnight into Thursday.

Thursday will be wet and windy, with showers and thunderstorms expected throughout the day and sustained 25 mph winds and gusts up to 40 mph at night, the NWS said. Another three-quarters of an inch of rainfall is possible Thursday, which will have a high in the lower 60s.

The inclement weather will let up by Friday, but it will be cooler with high temperatures around 45 degrees and overnight lows in the mid-20s under mostly clear skies.

Sunny, clear skies will rule through the weekend. High temperatures will likely hit 53 degrees on Saturday and 61 degrees on Sunday, according to the NWS.
