Sunny today; Chance for rain, snow Tuesday

Cooler than normal temperatures continue this week with a chance for rain and snow tomorrow.

Today will be calm, with clouds giving away for mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington. High temperatures will be in the low 40s with overnight lows around freezing.

A low pressure system will move into the area overnight, bringing a chance of precipitation Tuesday morning. Overnight may see a slight chance of snow after 1 a.m.

Rain with possible snow may mix together Tuesday, while turning into rain only after 11 a.m. Despite the 60% chance of wet and wintry mixtures, Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 43 degrees. Little to no snow accumulation is expected overall, the NWS said.

Early morning snow chances and road/ground temperatures near freezing create some concern for slick spots for travel, the NWS said. The slick spots may saturate and result in snow during early morning hours, NWS added.

Precipitation should taper off Tuesday night.

Wednesday will be drier with mostly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the upper 30s.

Wednesday night will likely be mostly cloudy with temperatures falling in the upper 20s. There’s a chance for for some light rain and/or snow showers.

A mostly cloudy day is set in store for Thursday highs will be in the upper 30s and lows will be in the lower 20s overnight.

Friday will be partly sunny and cold with a high near 33 degrees.
